The accepted authors will present their proposals in the HLAI 2016 Doctoral Consortium in the morning of July 16, opening at 11:00 and leading into a joint lunch starting 12:30.

Also, they are invited to participate in the poster session of HLAI 2016 in the evening of July 17.

All attendees of any of the HLAI 2016 member conferences are invited to join the Doctoral Consortium in the morning of July 16 in order to provide feedback during the discussions.

Revised and expanded versions of the research proposals will be collected as proceedings and published online in citable form in the Publication Series of the Institute of Cognitive Science (PICS, ISSN 1610-5389) after the event.

Demo Session: The demo session is a chance to show off what people have built. Whether it’s a python script, an interactive mobile app or a sentient robot butler, we would love to see everyone’s work. It will take place during an HLAI wide reception, so you’ll get great exposure and great feedback from the field’s luminaries. Commercial demos are welcome as long as they refrain from blatant sales activities and are willing to openly discuss the technical details of the demo.

Poster Session: Posters will be contributed by participants of all involved events, bringing together a diverse group of topics and people to mix, mingle, and discuss current and future HLAI trends and ideas.

The HLAI 2016 Poster & Demo Session takes place as part of the HLAI 2016 Reception on the evening of July 17, 2016.

HLAI 2016 will dedicate the morning of July 16, 2016, to a Doctoral Consortium.

The aim of the Doctoral Consortium is to give young researchers in fields related to human-level AI research (such as, e.g., cognitive systems, cognitive AI, cognitive modelling, neural-symbolic integration, cognitive computing, computational creativity,…) a platform to meet and mingle, to discuss their ideas, to get feedback and advice from senior scientists, and to create a network for the new generation of researchers.

In 2016, the 60th anniversary of the Dartmouth Conferences will take place, commemorating the events which effectively inaugurated the history of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cognitive systems research. Many of the original founders of AI as a research discipline shared the dream of (re-)creating high-level intelligence with computational means, i.e., achieving human-level AI – a goal which is (possibly with varied interpretations) still pursued by many researchers all around the world today.

As also IJCAI (the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence) will be returning to the motherland of AI for IJCAI-16 in New York City, from July 9-16, 2016, we want to use this occasion to align the respective 2016 editions of the major human-level AI and computational cognition events into one multi-conference, in turn collocating this joint meeting with IJCAI 2016.

In doing so, we hope to create a meeting point and platform for members of the different research communities working on questions with relevance for human-level AI, for bridging the social and conceptual gaps between individual people, groups, and communities, and for acting in concert towards our shared scientific goal.
